Weekly Support Groups
Domestic Violence Support Group Open to shelter residents and survivors not staying in the shelter providing educational information about domestic violence, trauma and how it impacts survivors. Skills taught include improving self worth, coping skills, and processing feelings such as anger, fear, guilt and shame. Participants share experiences, learn from and support one another while exploring safe options to future challenges. Contact Camille or Karen for details about participation. #906-226-6611. Children's Group Open to children who are residents of Harbor House and to children whose parents are attending the Domestic Violence Support Group. Provides children an opportunity to learn how to cope with the feelings they have about the violence they have witnessed and endured. Skills include building self worth, how to stay safe by creating a safety plan, developing problem solving skills and non-violent alternatives, and understanding it is not their fault. Some of the Skills taught include financial, nutrition, self-care, parenting, relationships, budgeting and self-esteem.
