Volunteer Opportunities

There are many different ways people can donate their time and effort to the Women's Center & Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter. Volunteers are essential to the day-to-day success of the many programs and services, which are offered free of charge, and provide key support to the staff and clients.

Women's Center

The Women's Center offers programs and services that provide crisis intervention and supportive advocacy services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Volunteer opportunities at the Women's Center include:

General maintenance & repair: Assist with upkeep of the building and grounds.

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART): Provide crisis intervention and support services to survivors of sexual assault, including accompanying survivors to the hospital and interviews with law enforcement officers. Volunteers should possess active listening skills, empathy skills and be willing to advocate for victim rights. Volunteers should be able to complete a minimum of 32-40 hours for training. SART volunteers carry the SART pager for one week when they are on-call to respond to emergency situations.

Pak Ratz Resale Shop: Sort & process donations, straighten and organize shelves, general cleaning and maintenance.

Fundraising: Assist with Women's Center events, host events for the Women's Center with your own organization, donate.

Community Awareness: Assist  with creating, and/or handing out flyers, attending events.

Harbor House

The Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter provides temporary,  safe shelter to survivors of domestic violence. Services include: crisis intervention, supportive advocacy services, a 24-hour crisis line, resource information and referrals, counseling, safety planning, legal advocacy and transportation assistance. Volunteers should possess active listening skills, empathy skills and be willing to advocate for victim rights. Volunteers should be able to complete a minimum of 32-40 hours for training.

--Answering crisis phones
--Providing shelter shift coverage
--Providing crisis intervention and supportive advocacy services to shelter residents
--Assisting with adult and/or weekly domestic violence support group
--Assisting with the Youth Program
--Providing childcare
--General Maintenance and repair

Domestic Violence Advocacy Team (DVAT)
Provide emergency crisis intervention and direct support services to survivors of domestic violence, including accompanying survivors to the hospital and interviews with law enforcement officers on-scene.
Volunteers should possess active listening skills, empathy skills  and be willing to advocate for victim rights. Volunteers should  be able to complete a minimum of 32-40 hours for training. DVAT volunteers participate in an on-call rotation.
