Services

Emergency Hotline:
906-226-6611 or 1-800-455-6611

Your call is confidential.

Survivors and their children come to the shelter after experiencing the trauma of domestic violence or sexual violence in their home. They often walk through the doors of the shelter with nothing but the clothes they are wearing, seeking safe haven from the violence they have endured. Our services include crisis intervention and emergency response to incidents of domestic and sexual violence. Services can be accessed 24/7, 365 days a year by calling the emergency hotline.

Through the Women's Center programs, women and families are assisted with locating affordable housing, getting necessary household items and finding adequate employment. Counseling is available, as well as advocacy, to help put the necessary safety precautions in place that allow individuals and families to move forward with their lives.

The Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter is the only emergency shelter in Marquette and Alger Counties for survivors and children fleeing abusive homes. The shelter is always open, always staffed and always ready to help survivors and children in need of safety and access to services. Harbor House provides individual and support group counseling and supportive advocacy services to survivors staying in shelter. Harbor House also provides services to survivors and children that are not residing in shelter through outreach program services. Advocates work closely with survivors and their children to develop a safety plan.

The Sexual Assault Response Program is a 24/7 on-call support, advocacy and community education which provides individual and group counseling, advocacy, educational information and referrals for child and adult survivors of sexual assault. These services are also provided to families/friends/loved ones and survivors.

Weekly Support Groups include: the Domestic Violence Support Group, Toolbox Group, Children's Group, Resident Meeting, Sexual Assault Support Group and others.

Information and referrals are provided through the crisis line to assist clients in accessing other community services. These referrals include legal, medical and counseling services, as well as housing and financial resources.

All services are confidential and are provided free of charge.
